Laurel Burch bag

Laurel Burch bag

Yesterday my friend Di and I went out to Penrith to visit a couple of quilt shops. First on the list was Folklore/Penrith Patchwork which was having a stock-take sale with 20% off just about everything. I didn’t buy any fabric but did find a really lovely small Laurel Burch bag for my granddaughter. Isn’t it sweet? (I hope she doesn’t see this before I give it to her.)

Next stop was Michelle Marvig’s Patchwork Heart which I mentioned here.

I had previously purchased some of her Souzani range when she visited the Camden Country Quilters’ Guild but she didn’t have the colourway I really liked with her so this was an opportunity to get some. I think it looks lovely in this bluey turquoise.

She also had laminated fabric in this design and I almost succumbed – perhaps when I’ve completed a few of my “works-in-progress”.

Patchwork Heart was also having a sale with between 30% and 50% off fabrics so I bought a small selection of fabrics I hadn’t seen anywhere else – couple of reds and a grey and a green.

They also had the most comprehensive selection of Perle 8 threads I’ve ever seen. I bought a lovely purple one and lurid pink one for my granddaughter to use when she comes to visit.

Purple and pink are her favourite colours and I’m hoping to teach her some embroidery using this very clever kit which I bought online. It uses rulers with holes in and allows you to mark with a pen (included) where the needle needs to go in and out of the fabric.

Well I’m a day late. I had hoped to blog everyday and I was willing but WordPress wasn’t yesterday. I don’t know what happened but all the WordPress blogs seemed to be experiencing problems. Anyhow it looks like it’s fixed now.

Catherine from Catherine’s Place sent me some photos of the Presencia Perle Sample Packs. They’re solids not variegated but they look lovely. Check them out…

Valdani

One of the blogs I love to visit is Quiltsalott and Janet who writes this blog put me on to another thread called Valdani. It is also gorgeous and has heaps of variegated threads in really sumptuous colours. Take a look at their website and drool. They have a list of Australian Distributors here but I visited one of the sites mentioned and couldn’t see their thread anywhere on the site. If you’ve used Valdani thread I’d love to hear from you. Please leave a comment and/or take part in my poll. I’m interested to see what thread comes out as favourite.

A Wild Thread Chase

How can DMC Perle Cotton be so elusive? I called an unmentionable large fabric and thread store in Alexandria and asked if they stocked it. “Yes!” was the reply. So DH and I trekked all the way into town. Not a ball of it be seen anywhere! The person who said “yes” had apparently gone home and all the other staff could say was “Sorry, but it’s on the computer” and “The Sydney store probably has it”.

So we trekked into Sydney and you guessed it – no one in there even knows what it is!!!

Perle, Perle wherefore art thou??

So perhaps I might abandon the Perle and go for Sulky Blendables like Silly Boo Dilly. Or will that be even harder to find?
