The blog move…

Moving this blog has been a lot of work and the next few days should see it switched to the new site – God Willing. I’m just testing a new subscription widget which I hope will allow me to just transfer all the current subscribers without them having to do anything. If you don’t get an email when you expected to then please let me know using the form here. I hope you’ll all stick with me on the move. I have some interesting posts coming up including one with Inklingo’s Linda Franz. If you have any questions you’d like me to put to Linda please post them here and I’ll see what I can do.

…and other things

My Kona solids colour card arrived so now I don’t have to guess how close the screen colour is to the colour I need.

And that’s not all. The Pinmoors arrived.

I have to say that while I haven’t used them yet I did try a pin in one. While it is easy to insert the pin, pulling it out is not so easy and so I imagine they will stay in much better than my trial polystyrene ones. The lady who invented them claims they even stay on in the washing machine!

My family visitors leave today and I will be very sad to see them go but the postie cheered me up a little with the TWO parcels he brought me today.

The first was from my gorgeous email/skype friend Sylvia from NY state in the US.  Sylvia you are so kind and thoughtful and I really enjoyed ripping open your parcel. Look what was inside. A lovely handmade bag in my favourite colour – purple. It also has a handmade glass button. If you click on the image you’ll get a larger one and will be able to get a better look at it. That fabric is really me, as are the two Kaffe Fassett fat quarters. I also scored a lovely beehive needle keeper and some Mettler thread that Sylvia has been talking to me about which she recommends for applique. It’s 60wt and 100% cotton, so I’m looking forward to trying that out.

The second parcel was my order form Hancocks of Paducah. Here is the fabric portion of it. Some Kona cottons in white, midnight and Dresden Blue and some Kaffe Fasset fabric. It is called Radiation and I ordered it in the red and the black colourways. My Kona Colour card is on back order and unfortunately they sent me the wrong batting – polyester instead of cotton – still you can’t have everything.

I was looking through my pink and purple fabrics and I’ve come up with four that I might use in the coloured strips of the baby quilt and for the binding. I’m planning on using Kona Snow for the background and I haven’t yet decided whether to do a pieced or a plain backing.

Here are my four fabrics. What do you think?

Fabrics for the stripe

These are, from left to right, Kona Lilac by Moda, Ravello by Jinny Beyer for RJR and Burlesque Brocade by Brandon Mably for Rowan/Westminster fabrics.

I’m not 100% sure about using this fabric for the binding but if I do, I will probably use it on the bias. It’s called Rick Rack by Me and My Sister for Moda.
