We have a new, white IKEA chair that Mr Tiggy isn’t allowed on. It has a matching footstool that is also out of bounds. I was sitting on the chair the other day with a quilt thrown over my knees. I got up and left the quilt on the footstool and when I came back…

P1060280 P1060281I shooed him off, folded up the quilt and then went off to do something. I had been handquilting my daughter’s Bed of Roses quilt and had left it on the portable table I was using to put my needles and thread etc. When I came back this is what I found…

I left the quilt on a chair after sewing in the evening. In the morning I found the cat had already colonised it!

I’ve now inset the circle block into the square frame. I thought it might be difficult but it wasn’t and I really enjoyed it. (The photo doesn’t really show it but the frame isn’t the same fabric as the other purple one which actually has spots on it.)

The thing is, what now? I made this block mostly from bits of left over fabric. It’s too nice to discard but I’m not sure what to do with it. Make a small quilt and sell it? Make a cushion cover and sell it? Either way I’ll have to put a border around it and hand quilt it.

I’d like to raise some money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation but I have’t quite got my head around the way they work yet. They have some strange way of giving you a fund-raising page hosted by some “Hero” company. When, and if, I work it out I might make a few small quilts and offer them for sale for this cause. What do you think?

Mr Tiggy “at home”

It’s such a hard life for a cat, isn’t it? Lying about looking cute, sleeping and looking cute and only speaking when you want to eat.

I’ve been taking pics of the cats (Tiggy and Roscoe)and the birds (Jamie and Shamsi)and I thought I’d share them with you. I’m posting the whole series of the two cats because I thought it was funny the way they looked at me, then at each other, then ignored each other.

All this talk of Halloween…

There is so much chatter about Halloween in the blogosphere at the moment. I’m not a person who does special event quilting/sewing. That involves deadlines which I refuse to accept in my quilting life.

However, I took a photo the other day of Mr Tiggy. He was looking especially curly since he had a bath 2 weeks ago but he was looking very sad because he had been naughty and had been told off. He looked so mournful that I decided to photograph him. There wasn’t enough light so I had to use the flash. I used red-eye reduction but it didn’t work and produced this very scary Cat of the Baskervilles type photo which I though was perfect for Halloween.  What do you think? The other smaller photo (which unfortunately is out of focus) was taken by my US visitor when she was here. It also looks very “other worldly”, don’t you think?

A discussion of quilt patterns

Yesterday Doris made some interesting comments on my post about quilt patterns.

She suggested I use some circular or spiral patterns to be a sort of counterpoint to the rectangular coloured strips of my quilt. I did actually think of doing a spiral and then I decided it was just beyond my skill level at the moment.

I also designed the one on the left which is less challenging than a spiral because it is so wonky but I’m still not convinced it is do-able by me especially as it would need to be “filled in”.

Apropos of nothing here’s a cat that has been SPRUNG!

Appliqué cat block

I’ve just joined in my very first communal patchwork effort. We each had to appliqué a cat block – pattern provided – using the vliesofix method. It’s a surprise for a friend.

No colour was stipulated just that we had to use Japanese fabrics. I’m not a very good embroiderer so I’m a bit worried. I hope my block doesn’t let the team down. That would be awful on my first foray into group creativity.

Anyway here it is in all its “glory”.

I’d really like to take part in a Quilting Bee, Block Swap or Challenge one day with other bloggers but I’m just not sure where to find such an animal and/or how exactly it works. If you know, I’d love to have some information. Thanks

The appliqué cat

As I was working on my Arabesque the other night Mr Tiggy decided to help.

Design for a baby quilt

I’ve been working on a design for a baby quilt. It’s 4ft square and fairly simple. I’m planning to machine piece it. As I’ve taken the Process Pledge, I thought I’d share the journey with you from the beginning. What do you think? I haven’t come up with a name for it yet. No doubt that will appear as the project proceeds. I’m not even sure of the colours but I like the idea of being able to use scraps of interesting fabrics. I may even tweak it and make the coloured, pieced strips go the edge of each block just to make it easier.

Did I happen to mention that my cat has his own quilt? Well he does, and here he is sitting on it to prove it.

The cat sat on the mat

The cat sat on the mat

But now he’s missing…

One cat MIA

One cat, MIA

Where could he be? You guessed it! On somebody else’s quilt. This time my husband’s. That cat has no shame!

It's a cat's life but somebody has to do it!
