I made a baby quilt using foundation piecing techniques and scraps from my last baby quilt. This because I’m trying to use stash wherever possible. I pieced the back too and used my cloud ruler template to machine quilt it.
Take a look…

I did buy some fabric in February and I did donate half the value of it in charity – just so you know I’m keeping my promise. 🙂

I also bought some fabric on the first of March because I’m making a quilt for my daughter and didn’t have many of the flowery fabrics needed. I saw this beautiful pattern my Verna Mosquera called Mon Ami and it reminded me of the lovely weekend my daughter and I spent in Paris last year so I decided to make it for her.

Here are the fabrics I’m possibly using. Some from stash, some new and all have to be washed because it’s an appliqué quilt. 😦

Finally I motivated myself to get the sewing machine out again and finish the Which way? lap quilt top. I’ve decided it’s too big for a baby floor quilt. I used some of the Clover fork tip pins to align the seams. They seem (no pun intended) quite good.

Well here it is…I’m planning to machine quilt this but I’m going to have to get some practice in first. I still haven’t unpacked the Janome since it came home from hospital.

Half a baby quilt is better than none – or is it?

Yesterday I decided to try to finish the baby quilt top. And I did, well almost. I pieced two rows, sewed them together and pressed them – with the help of Mr T, of course:

Then I sewed the third third row to the second and …  I ran out of WHITE THREAD! Can you believe it? How can a person run out of white thread? I was just  two inches from the end of the seam. Well I decided I wasn’t going to leave a seam half done so I wound some thread from the bobbin onto the empty spool and continued to the end of the seam. But that is the end of my sewing until I can buy some more thread. So half a baby quilt…

I read in the Quilt Show Newsletter that Alex Anderson says quilters always forget about white but she was talking about white fabrics. Well I have plenty of those, I just don’t have plenty of white thread as you can see.

I haven’t posted about this quilt for a while but I haven’t been idle. Yesterday I finished the pieced blocks and cut out the plain white blocks. I just need to make sure I get the pieced ones the right way up when I sew them all together. Sometimes I have it right in my head but it comes out as a mirror image. Can you tell I’m spatially challenged? 🙂

If you’re looking for the give away or the French Hatbox co-op you can find them here. The give away is on till Saturday and you can earn yourself two chances to win.

Well although I’ve been busy doing other things these past few days I still managed to fit in a little sewing after a frustrating afternoon with my new Janome which appears to be sick. In fact it became sick during my free motion quilting class. I thought we had fixed it but it appears not, so it will have to take the long and winding road back to the dealer’s to see what’s wrong. 😦 I have a feeling that this time it’s not operator error but time will tell. Sigh…

Anyway my trusty old (36 years old) Bernina came through for me and I managed to sew the stripey strips for my baby quilt. Want to see? Here they are.

I was looking through my pink and purple fabrics and I’ve come up with four that I might use in the coloured strips of the baby quilt and for the binding. I’m planning on using Kona Snow for the background and I haven’t yet decided whether to do a pieced or a plain backing.

Here are my four fabrics. What do you think?

These are, from left to right, Kona Lilac by Moda, Ravello by Jinny Beyer for RJR and Burlesque Brocade by Brandon Mably for Rowan/Westminster fabrics.

I’m not 100% sure about using this fabric for the binding but if I do, I will probably use it on the bias. It’s called Rick Rack by Me and My Sister for Moda.
