First of all let me thank you all for your kind comments on my bag. They really inspired me to think about making a better one.
Now, just look what happened to my lovely bag!
The handle broke before I coud even use it! The rivet just popped out of one of the straps. I’m really not happy! To fix it I need to buy new straps, undo the top stitching, undo the sewing together of the lining and the bag and then unsew the current straps and reattach some new ones. Then reattach the lining and redo the top stitching! I think I should have stuck with my first idea which was to make reinforced fabric straps.
I emailed the supplier from whom I bought the straps at the Sydney Craft and Quilt Fair but the email bounced. I called and got an answering machine. I have messaged them on Facebook so I’ll see what sort of response I get. I’ll keep you posted.
If I have learned one thing over the years, it is to speak up when things are not as expected.
As a stop-gap measure(and until you’re not angry anymore), could you use a small bold and nut to hold it together until you get it all replaced? In the meantime, I suggest a voodoo doll and big, long pins for the “person” that sold this defective handle to you. (FYI, this works as a stress reliever just thinking about doing it….lol) Hug something/someone you love (or eat chocolate) until you feel better. 😎
