The Points

I’ve sewn some more of the pointy blocks. My two favourites are these two. They’re Brandon Mably prints.
Here are some others.I think there are more than this that I haven’t shown you but this’ll give you an idea of how I’m coming along.

The Paints

The painting is finished. Tomorrow the new carpet is supposed to be installed and then it will furniture moving time again! Not to mention UNPACKING BOXES! Anyone want to volunteer to help me organise my sewing studio???

The Pains

Painting and furniture moving has taken its toll on my husband and me. We both ache in just about every joint and muscle and then some! And you know the really unfair thing about all this is that for all this pain I haven’t lost an ounce! Oh well, better get a good night’s sleep because it’s all going to be happening tomorrow.

My husband and I visited the Anatolian Turkish Festival in Darling Habour on Sunday afternoon after a hard morning’s painting. There were lots of people, lots of interesting foods, Turkish music, Turkish wrestling and, my favourite, Turkish handcrafts. Beautiful paper marbling, hand-painted calligraphy and traditional wood carving to name a few. It was a lovely afternoon and the weather was perfect.

The sewing room is empty and the painting has begun. I spent a couple of hours today painting skirting boards, window sills and filling in holes in the plaster walls. Tomorrow is my husband’s turn – he gets to paint the ceilings. 🙂

Using the colours of Autumn

colours, knitting blog, palette generators, quilting blog, sewing blog, sewjournal blog

Today as the sun was shining on the leaves of my Japanese Maple tree I was struck how beautiful the colours were. The leaves seemed to glow from inside somehow. I got to thinking about using the colours of nature in quilts. There are many palette generators on the web and so I thought I’d try a few using the photograph below. It’s interesting to see how different they can be. I’ve given the links to the sites I used so have play with some of your photos and see if you find inspiration.

Palettefx.com

BigHugeLabs.com

DeGraeve.com

My favourite

Of the three I used I think my favourite is Palettefx.com as it gives more subtlety to the palette. For instance it shows four greens whereas BigHugeLabs.com uses only one and the DeGraeve.com palette generator doesn’t come up with any at all. If you have a play let me know how you go with it.

The more I do, the more there seems to do

I’ve made some more pointy blocks, another 16 to be precise.

However, when I look at all the points that I have cut out waiting to be sewn, well,  the pile just seems to never diminish!

Going Retro

First the phone

I appear to be going retro. First was the new retro handset for my mobile phone. It might look funny but it’s great. It saves me from 98% of the radiation and it makes it easier for me to find the phone in my bag. So if you call me I might just be able to answer before you hang up now!

Then these little beauties…

They’re pottery measuring cups and spoons and each one has a “hand-written-style” label on it with its measure. Aren’t they lovely?

Blog update

I’ve now just about finished my tweaking for a while. In order to have pictures in the synopsis pages of the archives I needed to choose a “featured image” for each one. That’s just way too much work so I’ve found where the boring old white cross on a grey background default image is and substituted a bright, friendly image of my own. Click here and you’ll see what I mean. You’ll still see all the relevant images when you click on an actual post but the archives list looks better this way. At least I think it does.

Thank you for all your great suggestions and feedback. I read everyone and acted on many.

Welcome to My New Look Blog!

I’ve just spent several angst-ridden hours updating the look and feel of my blog. What do you think? I’ve changed the colour scheme as the original one was a little staid for my liking.

Suburbia – tweaked a little

It’s based on a free WordPress Theme called Suburbia. I’ve tweaked it a little and there are some things I wish it had (like a menu) but it will do for now I think.

What do you think?

I’d really like to hear what you think. Even if you don’t like something about it I’d like to hear from you. So please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Thanks

Thanks for your input. You know I value your opinions.

I have been busy, busy, busy with points, points and more points. These are all hand pieced so they take quite a while to do. They’re not in any order yet I just thought you might like to see them.

A little hand-quilting

When I went away I also took my In a Spin quilt which I had started hand-quilting a while ago. I didn’t get any done but since I came back I have been diligently hand quilting it. It takes about 1.5 hours to quilt one spinner and I think there are 64 of them!. Take a look.

Patchwork Orange is having a 50% off sale

The Patchwork Orange has a 50% off everything sale  until the end of May!  I bought this Jinny Beyer book for only$37.50! It has some really intriguing blocks in it.I also bought some small scissors and my favourite Clover thimble.

[Edit: I’m sorry for those who came and visited when the page was half finished. I accidentally hit publish instead of preview. Can’t you tell it’s Friday! :)]
