I received a new (to me) book in the mail the other day. It’s called Quilts with a Spin by Becky Goldsmith and Linda Williams of Piece O’ Cake Designs.

I like their books because their instructions are always so easy to follow. I’m hoping to sit down with a cuppa later this afternoon and have a read.

I bought mine from the Book Depository (affiliate link) because it was a great price and had free worldwide shipping. However, I’ll let you into a secret.  I just found that it is actually on sale for $10 on the Piece O’ Cake website. You can order it here. (No affiliations).

The reason I bought this book is for this one block. It’s called the whirlygig block.

I saw it first when Jackie of Canton Village made some. However her whirlygigs have fewer vanes and use a plastic template. I’m not sure which I prefer.

Anyway as you all know I rarely follow instructions to the letter so my whirlygigs ( when I get around to them) will probably be different from both of these.

Jackie did have an online tutorial on her blog but my computer is not in my sewing room and so I needed a hard copy.  As blog sites don’t print nicely  I forked out my hard-earned for the book. I’m happy I did. It has some other interesting blocks and quilts in it too. In fact you can see more pics here.

Guess what?

I’m quite excited. I found out yesterday that on June 10 this year my blog – which was less than 2 months old at that time – was in the top 100 fastest growing WordPress sites! Admittedly at number 98 but I was still thrilled to see it in the top 100. So thank you all for visiting I really appreciate your support.
