Well, what did I do at the Scquilters’ Gathering apart from taking photos?
I did a little hand-quilting of the Andalusian Tile quilt and I set to and transformed two of the “Uglies” into quite a cute pin cushion. What do you think?
Anyway my plan now is to convert them all to pincushions. However, I need to find a better filling I think than the leftover cotton batting I used this time.

I’ve used walnut shells for the stuffing. Bought them at the pet store.
I’ve used the walnut shells as well. They are ground up, a bit of a pain to “install” but they make great pincushion material.
I’m currently using unwashed wool fleece – the residual lanolin apparently keeps the pins from rusting. I have to card the one I was given, as it was incorrectly washed and has gone clumpy, which is a pain, but it’s great tostuff with after that. You can buy natural fibre like this from the Spinners’ and Weavers’ Guild at Burwood.
Thanks Nola and welcome back!
UGLIES??? I think they’re beauties!!!
Thanks Sylvia. 🙂
I’ve heard that wool makes a great pin cushion. The lanolin protects the metal.
