Despite all the dire forecasts of storms and torrential rains this morning was beautiful. It didn’t feel like winter at all. It was warm, with a light breeze and lots of sunshine so we decided to go to Cobbity Markets.
Cobbity is a small, picturesque village south of Sydney and on the first Saturday of the month they have a market. As I understand it the items for sale have to be home-grown or home-made. This results in an interesting spectrum of items for sale that ranges from the really yummy and/or beautiful to the somewhat tacky.
Today my favourite stall was missing. They sell olives and artichokes and spicy fetta cheese and stuffed vine leaves and… and… you get the picture.
However we still came home with quite a haul of fruit and veg and a pack of toasted Macadamia Nut Muesli.
I haven’t cooked rhubarb in ages. I’m thinking maybe a rhubarb and ginger pie, or perhaps a rhubarb crumble.
And the beetroot is earmarked for a cooked beetroot and pasta salad.
After visiting the markets we went and had a look around the lovely St Paul’s Anglican Church which was built in the early 1800s.
It has some really stunning stained glass windows which we were allowed to photograph and, fortunately, the pictures came out really well. If you click on them you’ll get a larger image with more detail.
In addition to its lovely stained glass the church has a very beautiful and peaceful cemetery surrounded my natural bushland.
There was a small book fair at the church and I bought a “help me to nod off” who-dun-it for $2. Oh well, off to cook the rhubarb and then a little sewing, I hope.
Haven’t been to Cobbity markets in ages. Is there still the stall that does garlic mushrooms on the bbq? Always made a great breakfast. 🙂
Thank you for the photos of St Paul’s, I had forgotten how beautiful it is.
Hi Kate I don’t think I’ve ever seen the garlic mushroom barbecue and I guess if it was there the aroma would be amazing. So probably it’s no longer there. Glad you enjoyed the photos Cheers Munaiba
