Well I’ve finished the machine quilting on the prayer mat. Then I decided I didn’t like the hand quilting so I ripped it out. Then what to do? I decided to faux hand quilt it. I did some largish stitches through only one layer of fabric to enhance the design. I’m happy with it now and so tomorrow hopefully I can trim it and bind it. Here’s a little taste. When it’s bound I’ll post another photo.
Bangladeshi Quilts
In the meantime if you’re looking for eye-candy why not hop on over to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and check out the Bengali quilts – called Kathas. At least that’s how my husband says the word. The Museum calls them Kanthas for some reason. Anyway whatever the name these vintage handmade quilts are very interesting. Enjoy!
What a clever solution, it now looks like it was meant to be there. A friend did a Kantha stitching class recently and that’s what she called it and what I’ve seen in magazines. Amazing stuff.
Where did she do her class? I’d love to have ago. My husband is Bengali and all his family call them Kathas (pronounced Kattas). Strange isn’t it?
